Oops...

I just put a post here only to realize I really put it on my old blog!  It must have been one of those sublimal slips.  I think I will leave it here rather than cut and paste it over here:

Family News

Uncle Puffy

I know that's a very strange name for a man, "Puffy", but that's what everyone called him.   His real name was Laurie, which around here is also a strange name for a man, but up in Novia Scotia it was fairly common 101 years ago when my uncle was named.

Yesterday, Uncle Puffy died.  He had 101 good years and was the oldest of nine children (7 boys, 2 girls) and the last of all of them to pass away.  My dad was the first of the nine to die, back in 1975.

I feel surprisingly sad about his passing.  I hadn't seen Unlce Puffy in about 18 years because he lives 3 hours away.  But, he was the remaining Legere, the last of the Legere Uncles.  They were all good men and most of them, including my dad, served in WWII.  They were a tight knit group, family always came first, and they all loved motorcycles - except my dad, he was into cars and used to race in an amateur race club for GM sports cars - he definitely passed this through his genes to my son!)

For me, it feels like the end of an era, like a door has been permanently closed to my childhood memories.  When we were growing up, every Sunday after church, the entire family (minus one aunt that lived in Maine) would gather at the home of my grandparents, we called them Meme and Pepe and almost everyone would speak French.  I can close my eyes and bring myself right back to that house and see all of my cousins and second cousins and aunts and uncles.  Meme would be seated in her chair in her Sunday best, Pepe in his chair with his pipe....tons of kids, teens and early 20's cousins everywhere.  I loved those times.

On the other end of the spectrum, my niece, Danielle, is having a baby!!!!  Wyatt is 11 years old so he will have a much younger sibling, but is very excited.  I just wish they weren't so far away (New York - out in the boonies next to the Canadian border).  Her husband will be in Afghanistan when the baby arrives so she plans on having it here!!!!  YAY!  I've been needing a baby for years :)

Thinking of each of you...
Peace, Love and Hope,
Barbara
